Daylight Donuts
Introducing a user interface refresh for an existing donut shop.
My Role
UI Designer
Duration
April 2022 - June 2022
Project Overview
The goal of this project was to develop an updated design system, create elements used for mobile and desktop and give the existing brand an overall visual and UI refresh. The final deliverables for this project include a comprehensive component library, high-fidelity wireframes for mobile, native, and desktop screens, and a style tile.
The Final Solution
After completing a thorough heuristic analysis of the existing branding, I arrived at the final solution below. I chose a clean, modern san serif font and chose to incorporate vibrant color into the rebrand.
Research
The initial step in my research phase was to complete a very thorough heuristic analysis following Nielsen’s Usability Heuristics.
3: User Control and Freedom
No label buttons exist, how do users know where to navigate this website
There is no redo/undo
Highlight ways users can exit out of a current window or interaction so the user does not feel “stuck”
4: Consistency and Standards
The current website lacks consistency, does not follow industry standards (UI guidelines)
Users look for a consistent set of standards when navigating through an experience
7: Flexibility and Efficiency of Use
This site lacks efficiency of use. The user cannot customize their experience
No keyboard shortcuts are enabled for the current website
8: Aesthetic and Minimalist Design
This current website lacks an aesthetic and minimalist design. The design of the current website is very overwhelming and hard to prioritize where to look first. The site lacks a visual hierarchy. Because of this, there is reduced clarity and increased confusion.
Features need to be prioritized and content should support user and business goals
After conducting this audit, I had a clear path forward on the prioritized features and also visual elements that should be incorporated into the UI refresh. I wanted the users to have control over their experience to navigate fluidly through the application and to be able to utilize a product that does not increase confusion by abiding by design standards. Finally, I wanted the design to be fun, and vibrant, but very aesthetically pleasing.
